Sheila is the Founder of the Utho Group of companies which was established in 1999.
She has a combination of legal, banking and international business experience. She received her B.L. (Honours) form the University of Zimbabwe and her L.L.M. from Queens University in Canada with a specialisation in International Economic Law.
She has over 20 years of extensive corporate law, corporate finance, investment banking and management experience having worked in various countries and for various financial institutions such as Standard Chartered Bank, Zimbabwe Banking Corporation, ABC Bank as well as Merrill Lynch (Indianapolis), Royal Dominion (Canada).
Pat is the current Chairman of Utho Capital.
Prior to that, he has worked for BMW South Africa, South African Breweries’ (Presently SAB-MILLER) and has worked at senior levels in private organizations as well as civil society organizations. He is one of the founding members of World Changers Recognition Awards (WOCRA). He is also one of the founding members of African Mineral Energy Forum. During this tenure he was part of the delegation that advised the minister on the Minerals and Energy Charter.
He is the Pepsi Distribution founder and Marketing Director, Founder of APS Security. Founder and Director of Milani Resources and Holdings dealing in iron ore and magnesium He is the Executive Chairman Milani investment. Patrick holds a Business Administration Degree.
Mr. Thabang J. Motsohi, is a Strategy Consultant having consulted to major corporate clients such as DBSA, SA Port Operations, StatsSA, City of Tshwane, FFC, Nozala and Transnet.
For eight years. Mr. Motsohi worked for over 13 years at executive level in the Civil Aviation Directorate in Lesotho. He served as Vice President, the African Civil Aviation Commission of the East African Region for three years. He joined Transnet Group in 1994 and served as its Transformation Strategist…and its General Manager since 1997.
He served as Chief Executive Officer of PX from 1998 to January 2000. He has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of Reunert Ltd., since June 1, 2008. He attended executive management programmes at London Business School, University of Singapore and the Harvard Business School.
Kevin is a financial advisory professional with over sixteen years corporate and investment banking deal experience.
He has been involved in a number of high profile transactions in that time; his role encompassing deal structuring, financial modelling, valuations, commercial and financial assessment, due diligence, strategy development and capital raising. His career in investment advisory has seen him work for a number of financial institutions in the Southern Africa in the region. He therefore has first-hand knowledge of the financial services sector in Zimbabwe, coupling it with experience gained working in other jurisdictions.
Over the past few years Kevin has broadened his focus to include Private Public Partnerships (PPPs), structuring and working on transactions whose aim is to harness private sector funding to assist the public sector in meeting targeted economic objectives. He is familiar with the intricacies of both corporate and project financing for projects and transactions, having been involved on various deals advising either private sector developers, Government entities in PPPs, or acting as an independent financial and/ or transaction advisor on transactions. As such, he has been involved in the full range of the project development cycle, from concept, through feasibility studies, capital raising and implementation monitoring.
Kevin has vast Pan African experience, having lived and worked in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. He has also advised on projects in various other parts of sub-Sahara Africa, including mergers and acquisitions, equity listings, bond origination, structured finance, corporate restructurings, turnarounds, and investment banking transactions, as well as regional consulting assignments.
He is currently a Senior Associate with Utho Capital, where his focus is Transaction and Financial Advisory deal execution. He is also part of the transaction team for Utho’s niche SME Infrastructure Private Equity Fund, where his role includes deal origination, due diligence, preparation of submissions to the investment committee, presentation of transactions to the investment committee, negotiation of financing agreements, post investment monitoring of investee companies, value creation to optimise investments and reporting back to the Fund’s investors.
In addition to his B.Com. Finance degree, Kevin has undergone various training courses for essential investment banking and Fund Management skills. He is a member of the Institute of Business Advisors Southern Africa (IBASA) and an FSCA registered Representative for Utho Capital Fund Managers.
Dr Matildah Zungunde
Matildah is a seasoned banker with highly developed business development skills, Leadership skills and strong Analytical and Diagnostic skills gained from over 20 years of banking experience working for the Old Mutual Group, where she worked in various capacities, as well as in her current role as a Senior Associate at Utho Capital Fund Managers. Her current role encompasses deal origination, due diligence, negotiation and structuring transactions, implementation, presentation of transactions to the investment committee, negotiation of financing agreements, post investment monitoring of investee companies and reporting to the Fund Board of Trustees.
She has developed and implemented major financial products. Her areas of expertise include: Banking, Business Development, Market Research, Turnaround Strategic Management, Project Management, and Capital Raising. Further, she has good strategic appreciation and vision and is able to build and implement strategic plans explicitly supporting business needs. Matildah holds a Doctorate Degree in Business Leadership from UNISA. She also holds an MBA degree (graduated with a distinction average), Bcom Degree in Marketing, Post Graduate Diploma in Banking and a Diploma in Marketing. She is a member of the Institute of Directors (SA) and an Associate member of the Institute of Bankers in Zimbabwe (IOBZ). In addition to her current role as a senior Associate at Utho Capital Fund Managers, she is also responsible for coordinating the Group Marketing and Communication Activities.
Dr Matildah Zungunde
Pertunia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation.
She has been part of Utho Capital (Pty) Ltd since 2004. She has been involved in a number of project finance and PPP transactions and she focuses on: Black Economic Empowerment advisory, Monitoring and Evaluation, contract management and procurement. She is also responsible for the development and drafting of the relevant procurement documentation for RFQ and RFP.
The key roles covered in projects included:
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Reviewing and Quality Control of Reports
- Formulation of the Delivery Options Report
- Risk Analysis
- Developing the Implementation Plan; and
- Liaising with National Treasury
- Drafting the EOI Document, the Project Inception Report and Project Charter
Some of the major projects she worked on as a Black Economic Empowerment advisory as well as BEE Monitoring and Evaluations specialist are:
- Gautrain: Department of Transport and Bombela – Independent Socio Economic Monitor: Pertunia is undertaking the verification and monitoring of BEE in the Gautrain Project.
- Crowie Concessions – Engineering, procurement and construction of the Bokpoort concentrated Solar Power Plant
- Public Enterprises Evaluation and Privatisation Agency: Training and Capacity Building for the development of a citizen economic empowerment strategy framework for Privatisation
She is currently the Head of the Procurement Department where she over-arches all other roles from all parties involved to smoothly manage responses to Request for Proposals (RFP).
